THE COLE HARD TRUTH
Launching "Ever Stronger"
After 24 years in coaching, 18 as a collegiate head strength coach, I have launched my twofold "Ever Stronger!" consulting - personal workout programs, and clinics for school S&C programs. MORE
A football high: out-physical the opponent
Our six-man team, in its first two games, brought back memories of dominating wins over big powers in college football by demonstrating how an off-season strength and conditioning program pays off. Never mind it wasn't Nebraska or Texas; satisfaction still runs high over a job well done Feb-to-Aug leading to success in the fall. HERE'S HOW

Seeking financial peace
April 14, 2008 My oldest daughter, Aubrey, and I are going to school together this semester. We are taking a video class every Sunday evening called Financial Peace University presented by syndicated radio talk show host, author, and financial guru Dave Ramsey. The course teaches how to manage your finances, investing, and living money-wise.Ý That's stuff I wish I would have heard when I was 17, like Aubrey is. I'm glad I'm taking it with her. She's earning her own income working at an ic ...
4 Points in Addressing HS graduation
May 5, 2008 Last weekend brought a wonderful opportunity. It was a pleasure to address the Manhattan CHIEF High School Graduation on Saturday, May 3. CHIEF stands for Christian Homes-In-Educational Fellowship.I left with them with four points of encouragement: Never stop learning. Have courage to pursue your plans and dreams.Ý Play the movie. Don't play fair. Letís look at each of these points one at a time. Their high school education is now ending, but education ...
Piano hands and helping hands
ÝApril 22, 2008 Most people think of the piano as an instrument for one individual, or for accompaniment as others sing. Last week I got a whole new insight into piano playing while watching and listening to 20 individuals, 200 fingers, playing piano at one time. The "Grand Concert" it was called.A back story: My wife Stacey has instructed our five oldest children to play piano. As a person non-musically inclined, I don't have a lot to do with this process. Our oldest daughter ...
Will yourself to wait
April 9, 2008 Some random thoughts from the last week, tied together with a special theme.... During the last week one message came to me loud and clear: "Beware of getting ahead of God by your very desire to do His will...," a quote from Oswald Chambers in his classic devotional My Utmost for His Highest.Ý And if once wasn't enough: I prepared to teach a Sunday school class on Acts I, where the believers were told to wait after Jesus' ascension until the power of th ...
Our LL Rockies are rockin
April 2, 2008 The Colorado Rockies went on an amazing winning streak to end the National League regular season and Division Playoffs last year and reach the World Series. We're the Rockies, too, in our Little League, and after the opening day loss we are on a streak of our own - two in a row!Ý We won the second game by a football score, 14-7, and then prevailed 11-6 in our last game. I hope we can keep the streak going and get some press coverage, since the local sports edito ...
Daughter Aubrey's mission to Mexico
March 31, 2008 Growing up as I did in a Christian home, I always had a high level of respect for missionaries. Now my daughter is one, mini-version.I must admit that the idea of going off to foreign lands to live and share the gospel didn't appeal to me. Many summers I referred to our summer preparation of football players as a "summer mission" requiring commitment and sacrifice. That was my kind of mission.Ý My thoughts on missions were altered forever by a class called Perspe ...
Flashback at 4 in the morning
March 26, 2008, 4 a.m. Yes, 4 a.m. My mind is racing through thoughts of last night. You could call it "loss insomnia." Now my thoughts are racing back in time.A lot of things have changed since 1982. Gas was a lot cheaper. My hair was a lot thicker.Ý My waist was a lot thinner. I could run without the ache of arthritic joints. That was the last time I managed a real, live competitive baseball game - until last night. That summer of '82 I was preparing for my junior year of college and ...
No Tom Terrific, but terrific life in sports
March 25, 2008 Confession time. As a kid, I always wanted to be Tom Seaver, the Hall of Fame baseball pitcher for the New York Mets. I got jersey No. 41, and I dragged my right knee in the dirt as I delivered, just like "Tom Terrific." I was a decent Little League hurler, but I was no Tom Seaver. Not then. Not now. Not ever. God gifted me with different and unique abilities. The same is true with you. You are gifted with unique abilities that must be mined from ...
Easter - The Greatest Comeback Story
ÝMarch 21, 2008 As Easter approached last weekend, I spent some time thinking about all that this great Christian holiday means to me.Ý WhenÝI think of Easter, I think of coming from behind, of being down and out, but making a comeback that can only be labeled "miracle." We've been treated to some amazing comebacks during the last couple of weeks of March Madness in college basketball.Over my many years of involvement in sports, I have been part of some absolutely fantasic comeb ...
The Get-Back Towel
March 14, 2008 We have been busy adjusting to baby Charlsey the last several days. Her first visitors arrived, driving from Nebraska - Grandma and Grandpa Eberspacher. (I saved Stacey a lot of time signing checks when she married me.) Aubrey, our oldest at 17, returned from a four-day mission trip to Mexico.Charlsey had her first doctor's appointment at 4 days old. Mom preferred not to get outside, so it was just Dad and Charlsey. We did okay. Seems like all our kids have liked car rides ...
Baby Charlsey arrives
ÝFlashback: Sunday, March 9th, 2 a.m. (which instantly became 3 a.m.) Stacey, a few days overdue, was up, walking. I didn't know that until an hour and a half later when she woke me up with, "Do you want to get up and keep vigilance with me?" Can't believe she uses language like that at 3:30 in the morning. Always was much smarter than I am. But I know the word rhetorical, and knew that was a rhetorical question.3:30 a.m.I'm up, asking where "out here" is, where she ...
March 9 2008
There is a lot ofÝÝ"newness" in my life right now - it is the first day of CoachRodCole.com and the first day ofÝ life outside the womb for Charlsey Lydia, the youngest of seven children for my wife Stacey and me.Ý Mom and daughter are doing well, thank you. We are enjoying our new addition to the Cole Tribe and hope that you enjoy the website. Grandparents back in Kansas and Nebraska eagerly await with their welcoming parties for Charlsey & Clan to make her first trek from College ...
May 21 Family drive 2,600 miles
May 21, 2008 Nine of us ñ the entire Cole Clan ñ in a Suburban with the bags up on top in a luggage carrier. About 2,600 miles in two weeks. (Whoa, those gas prices are high!) Hundreds and hundreds of friends and family members along the way. Not your typical vacation, but the Cole family had fun. Glad to be back with you after two weeks on the road, where we stopped to visit with friends and relatives, attended a high school graduation (read about that elsewhere on the home page), attend ...
BB, summertime, and career items
May 31, 2008 I haven't mentioned the Rockies lately. The 10- and 11-year old boys baseball team I managed this spring just finished the season. Our final record was 11-8 and we didn't win the championship as we'd hoped, but it was still an outstanding year. The world of athletics flows up and down, and our season definitely provided a good example. The beauty of sports is that you learn to give your best, always expecting to win, but you learn how to live with the result no matter what. ...
