Launching "Ever Stronger"
After 24 years in coaching, 18 as a collegiate head strength coach, I have launched my twofold "Ever Stronger!" consulting - personal workout programs, and clinics for school S&C programs. MORE
A football high: out-physical the opponent
Our six-man team, in its first two games, brought back memories of dominating wins over big powers in college football by demonstrating how an off-season strength and conditioning program pays off. Never mind it wasn't Nebraska or Texas; satisfaction still runs high over a job well done Feb-to-Aug leading to success in the fall. HERE'S HOW

Methodology
Coach Rod Cole employs a Total-Body approach to his fitness training with individuals and groups. In his own words:
"My style of developing fitness, strength, and conditioning is what I call "Total Body Training." The precepts are based on Olympic weightlifting variations. Most sports are played on the feet and require explosive functionality, so I like to train on our feet in an explosive manner.
"I have developed an affinity for dumbbell complexes which involve myriad athletic movements that build strength, power, and coordination while simultaneously providing a conditioning effect. In "Ever Stronger!" Consulting, I plan to get into kettlebell training, which is akin in style to my dumbbell complexes.
"So many times, inexperienced strength coaches focus on training muscle more than movement. My Total Body program centers on builiding a strong, powerful, agile athlete who can play his/her sport powerfully for the duration of the contest, rather than building a big impressive physique.
"Performance wins championships, not looks. We'll leave that to the Mr. Universe trainers."
"Sometimes we think of conditioning as merely the ability to run for a long time. That's a myth. Conditioning for each sport, and even for different position groups and specialities within each sport, requires different facets unique to the various activities. Hence, for example, conditioning to play offensive line differs vastly from conditioning of a wide receiver who runs 100s of yards during a game.
"I train for a functional strength that meets the set of demands for any given activity. The only sports in which how much weight you can lift has a direct influence on the outcome is powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting. In all other sports, weightlifting takes place to prepare the body for competition.
"Sometimes that lifting requiures heavy weights, yet the speed of movement ranks just as critical as the poundage lifted. If an athlete wants to play fast, the athlete must train fast. Olympic lifters generate more power than any other athletes, hence we train in the explosive, powerful technique designed for power sports.
"My training methods have been successful with 100s of college athletes, and I welcome the opportunity to share them with you."
